I have totally slacked on the Brody updates compared to what I used to do for Jake.
Here goes..
Brody at 2 years and 9 months.
If you ask him how old he is, he will respond "6". Each. and. every. time. He will not accept that he is 2. He wants to do everything his brother does. Everything. Well, there is one exception..the potty. He has absolutely no desire to use the potty or ever wear underwear. In wanting to keep him my "baby" forever, I am ok with this. For now.
He is a very social boy and will walk up to strangers and tell them "I'm Brody, what is your name?". He has no problem making friends and loves to play with new people. He loves Dells lemonade, freeze pops, playing outside and at the playground, telling knock knock jokes that include the word underwear, the YMCA, most food, getting rocked to sleep, and his family. He does not like to nap in the car or stop jumping and bouncing on the couch. He rarely walks, instead her runs and bounces through the house. He loves to take Jakes toys and run with them. Teasing his brother is on his list of things to do most days. When we dropped him off at daycare 99% of the year this past year he hardly said bye. He seemed OK with being there most days, but was clingy when we would leave and hated to utter a word. He definitely warmed up and enjoyed the days.
The other Bro.. Jake. Hard to believe this boy is now 7. He had a great school year, earning perfect attendance for going each and every day. He had a great birthday at BounceU with several classmates and many friends. He is strong willed and loves to tell jokes, tell stories, and hang out with his family. He has just started to play Minecraft and loves his new "Born to Move" fitness class at the Y as well. He loves to play with Brody and is a great big brother most of the time. Minions are still a favorite of his but lately he has been into Marvel Superheroes such as Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America.
Their 2015 summer has already included a trip to Maine, the children museum in Providence and daily outings with Daddy. There is so much more to look forward to..this summer and beyond.

TWO!
**This was created on 10/21 but not published until the next month!
Our little guy will be TWO tomorrow! The laughs and smiles you have brought to our entire family are unmeasurable! At two Brody you love to high five and give an occasional fist punch when you can. While you like school and are mostly described as "cheerful & happy" most days, drop off is not easy. You fight the good fight and try not to cry but once we leave the room we can look back and see your little head down, lip out fighting tears.
You love clothes..you love to wear your shoes or boots around the house. You just outgrew your favorite Blue crocs but we have a pair lined up for the winter for you. You love boots, shoes, mommy's shoes, daddy's shoes and Jake's shoes. Your jacket doesn't come off right when you enter daycare or home..you like to wear it for a while and decided when YOU want it to come off.
You love the ipad and laptop and watch "Mickey House" when you do watch. You love to sing "Tinkle Tinkle little star", Happy Birthday a Itsy Bitsy Spider. You will be playing in your playroom and just bust out in song. You also love Elmo, Wheels on the Bus, Elmo's Wheels on the Bus and Minions (like your bro). When you pick up a phone it's always answered with "Hello, YAYA"!
You give hugs and kisses freely and also like to cuddle. Bed time is still a bit tough as you fight the good fight and still need to be rocked. You have battled Croup this past September and made your way to Hasbro for the first time - charming the nurses and doctors the entire time. You took your latest flu shot like a champ and howled, but did not shed a tear. You are a little toughy! Although you are the baby of the family you sure do hold your own ground!
You have started to climb out of your crib in the past two months.. but Mommy and Daddy have put you in a sleep sack so that you cannot lift your leg over that rail. We are winning..but we are sure that this will not last long. We do see a big boy bed in your room very soon.
Your second birthday "party" was a trip to Lowell for a night in a hotel (swimig twice!) and a Wild Kratts live show.
Brody: Guess what, Jake!
Jake: What, Brody?
Brody: I love you too, Jake!
You get him every time!
I may be lax on the bog - but its not for lack of love.. from your dirty blonde surfer do to your stinky feet - we love you more and more every day!!

BroBro
Dear Brody,
I'm sorry. If the internet is still "cool" or "around" when you are older and have time to read this.. you will realize I have dropped the ball on the documentation of your life. We love you, we really do. It's just going from a family of three to four is pretty demanding and well..you're sleeping habits don't allow for much down time. Don't get me wrong, at 19 months you are a good sleeper. Asleep by 8 each night at the latest and you do sleep through the night. For that, I am extremely greatful. It's just your morning routine that is less than desired. You wake up at 6:15 AM each morning, sometimes a tad earlier and you are ready to go! "Mama, dadda, mammmmmmaa, daddddaa, mama, dadda, mama, dadda, mammmmmaaaa'. You are super cute when we stumble in and never fail to say 'HI Mama or HI Dadda" when we enter. We quickly scoop you up and pray that your big brother doesn't wake. He, unlike you, loves to sleep in. He has even complained once or twice about it recently. You are a cuddle bug and can usually stay still for about 10-15 minutes and cuddle in our bed. After that, you are eager to wake your brother..running up the hall and busting in the room to wake him.
Is this so bad? No!! Could you sleep a little later? YES! So forgive me if my lack of sleep has prevented me from documenting your life as much as I did for your brother. (excuses, i know)
At 19 months, you are a spitfire! Your blond hair and blue eyes make you a little charmer. You greet everyone with a "HIIII" or leave with a "BYYYYEEE". When you blow kisses, you melt my heart. While you do like to scope a scene out for a few minutes, I wouldn't call you shy. You love to run, and have a bounce in your step when you do. You love your trycycle right now, but also love to try to ride Jake's scooter. You love being pulled around the block in your wagon, playing at the YMCA and running up and down your grandparents backyard.
Your big brother is in love with you, just as you are with him. You love to mimic him, play with him, pull his hair and shout his name at the top of your lungs. You, my little friend, are the best gift we could give him. Once we had Jake and moved up here to West Warwick, or #1 goal was to make him a big brother. While it took far longer than we ever expected or wanted, it happened. You are the gift that we waited for to complete our family. Your hugs, your kisses (mmmmmmmm with your bottom lip over your top lip) your personality, even your sleeping habits..we wanted it all and we got it. So, if your upset that we aren't blogging...it's just because we are tired AND hanging out with our two favorite boys.
Now...time for a nap. ;)

2013 in review
Why not sum up 2013 in one post?
January and February..were pretty great. Jake, Brody and I were enjoying my maternity leave and got to do some fun things while I was home with them. A winter blizzard came in early February and we survived!
Alex was extended in his long term sub position until the end of the school year. What a blessing that was!
The end of February came the broken leg for Jake...traumatizing for us all. Phone into the toilet just minutes before, lost on the way to the hospital, carrying a crying 4 year old and a 5 month old to the car was impossible but done. Jake was one brave boy and even had me convinced when we got to the hospital that maybe his leg wasn't broken. It was. A cast..wheelchair..lots of love from family and friends. Toys..lot's of "feel better toys".
The following week, I went back to work and Kaylin jumped in as their nanny. The transition was a tad rough for Jake. He was very used to me being home and wanted me to stay home forever. We all did. It wasn't happening.. A broken leg, his mom going back to work, no more daycare and his brother moving into his bedroom. Woah. It was a lot but we all survived!
The spring went well and Jake was back outside running as if his leg was never broken. Yes, he favored it a bit..but he healed amazingly well and quickly. Daddy coached lacrosse and his team did very well.. just one win from the finals. Coach had a great season!
Summer brought trips to the spray park at the Y, lots of parks, Jake's outdoor birthday party (Octonaut themed), a trip to Ogunquit Maine with the Ronan family for Christian's run. Jake lost his two bottom teeth at Papa's house in early July. The tooth fairy came and he was excited to get money under his pillow. Alex had his neck surgery late July and he also healed like a champ. A couple of weeks later we went to Lake George and had a great time with family. The Mini ha ha, Great Escape, the beach, arcade games, campfires, grilling out and Saratago were highlights. Jake won many races with his #5 horse!
Alex and Jake headed back to school at the end of August. A HUGE highlight was that Alex stopped smoking cigarettes on Jake's first day of school. We are SO very proud of him for accomplishing this. I know it's not always easy for him but he has not bought a pack since August and I couldn't be more proud.
School is school.. Jake is doing great and his handwriting is getting great and his writing is so cute!! He amazes us with his sentences and his reading.
Brody's first borthday party (pumpkins) was great and we were again blessed to be surrounded by family and friends. He had a great time and all the kids who came dressed in costume! He was a pumpkin, Corey was Elmo, Jake was Yoda, we had fairies and princes and lots of fun!!
Halloween was great as well.. Yoda and Clark Kent had a great time walking Mimi And Grampy's neighborhood. We even did a few houses on our street...very cute and very fun.
Thanksgiving was spent in RI with our family here and it was a lot of fun..and a lot less stressful with a short ride rather than a long one to MA.. although we missed our out of state fam! Alex started coaching girls basketball soon after and is liking it.
Christmas season was magical. Jake is still obsessed with the 12 Days of Christmas and loves to sing Christmas carrolls! We met Santa just days before Christmas at Bass Pro Shop and both boys smiled happily on his lap! Christmas eve was spent at the Rainvilles..Christmas morning at our house..a few hours of opening presents and enjoying the moments. We trucked it to Papa's house and then the Stabach home that day. We had LOTS of fun with grandparents, cousins and aunts and uncles. Christmas night at the Stabach home has been a tradition I look forward to all year. It reminds me of Christmas Eve at my grandmothers house.. family family and more family. We then had RI Christmas a few days later at Mimi & Grampy's and enjoyed breakfast and presents there this year without having to rush off. The kids were spoiled and we had a a great time with ALL of our family.
2014 is here and we hope its a fabulous year for the Gregson family! We have lots of goals this year and are hoping to accomplish them. This WILL be year Alex gets his permanent teaching job! #believe.
Second child Brody has not been as documented as his older brother..the guilt continues! He was walking at 10 months, is talking up a storm lately (gibberish) and got his first haircut on Jan. 4th! He cried the entire time! At the end he was happy to get his prize and was pulling at where his hair had been for 14 months. While I did NOT want to cut it.. he looks much better and his beautiful blue eyes can seen clearly now. He loves his big brother and always wants to do what he is doing. "What does the Fox say?" is their favorite song and they both sing and dance when it comes on. Brody can say "Jah" for Jake, Dada for Daddy, Mama, ya ya, mimi.. and his newest is BYE! He giggles and loves to be tickled like his big brother..loves jumping on our bed, waking up at about 6:30-7 each morning and running the house. Jake and him could run the house for hours if we let them. They love chasing each other. It's really awesome to see their relationship grow. Big Bro & Little Bro..the love of our lives.
Speaking of love.. Tuesday marks the 17 year mark for Alex and I. It's so crazy to us that 17 years has passed so quickly. Seems like just yesterday we were Juniors at the Mack and living life as single kid free college students. We have been blessed with some amazing things over the past 17 years but by far J & B top the list. We are exhausted daily, do heaps of laundry weekly, go through more bread, peanut butter, jelly and milk than I could ever imagine..but i couldn't imagine life without them.

Who's a worse blogger than me? Ugh. I had started this blog a month ago and never finished it...
It's here. Kindergarten. Jake is so ready! Although, I am not really convinced that he truly understands what kindergarten will be all about. We had Orientation today for an hour at his school and we met his teacher (Mrs. Bagley) who seemed very nice. Jake found his desk and put all of his school supplies in his desk. I guess this is just the beginning of a very long journey!
A month and a half in an things are going great. Jake comes home from school with tons of songs, new methods of learning ( eagle eye!) and loves practicing his letters and numbers. He even loves to write sentences. Last week was the best - "Mommy, how do I spell 'my little brother is so cute I could cry'?" He loves to do homework and to fill his reading log daily. He tells us lots of stories "I don't think Mr Bagley works". His teachers husband. Ok. "An older girl in the back of the bus got sick today ON THE BUS". Me: omg, did you feel bad for her, the poor girl!? Jake: No! I felt stinky for me, it smelt awful the whole way home (holding his nose). One day we sent him to school and let him buy milk for lunch. When I asked him how it went he informed me that he didn't drink it.. He couldn't open the carton.. So he threw it away. Ok. We have since let him know he just has to ask the lunch aid for help. Today the he had a story that ,add me sad.. But I am sure it will happen with boys. "mommy, today you gave me a baby spoon for my applesauce and the boys made fun of me". Then he reminded me that he sometimes gets confused and throws his spoons away. Yes buddy, that's why we send plastic baby spoons. :).
Brody boy. Brody started walking mid September at about 10.5 weeks and hasn't stopped! He is a tad shaky on his feet but gets around just fine ! He loves to play with Jake and picks up a plastic phone and we swear he says "hi". He is also an eating machine and will eat anything Alex and I eat. We take advantage of this as Jake is super picky. His diet consists of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chicken nuggets or hot dogs.
Soccer started again for Jake this fall and its amazing how much is different this year. He likes it much better and has a great time doing the drills. When it comes to game times, the second half of practice, it's pretty much 15 kids running in circles and the ball kind of moving too. He loves to run around and has a blast playing. He also loves the dels lemonade after and the playground too.
Speaking of playgrounds, we have been trying to find new ones lately and have come across two really cool ones that are close by in Cranston. Jake had a blast at the ones where there are tons of ropes a d different things to climb on. Brody loves the swing and loves to watch the other kids too. It won't be too long before he making his mark on the playgrounds. We love the ones at have bike paths or walking paths too. A trip to the playground usually ends with an adventure walk. Jakes imagination at this point is pretty fun. He can turn a walk into a giant adventure.

Big Guy!
I use this blog to document the happenings of our two little boys.. but recently my big guy underwent surgery and came out like a rock star! Alex has put surgery off for many years, needing disc replacement badly. He was in constant pain, loss feeling in his arm and fingers, had his elbow and other parts of his arm lock up at times, had muscle atrophy and was always in pain. Finally.. the surgery happened. Two discs were removed and a wafer was put in in their place. After this a titanium rod was put in to hold this new piece of his spine together. To do this, Dr Lucas went through the front of his neck.
The three hour procedure took place at RI Hospital and I cannot say enough about the staff there and of Dr Lucas. Brody spent most of the morning with me there, while Jake was in school. Looking back, I am so glad I had the distraction of taking care of B. Alex came to and I was allowed to see him in the recovery room. A friend had warned me that he may not look so good right after surgery. He looked awesome! He was a bit out of it and had the nurses entertained. Alex spent the night over night and was itching to get out of the hospital in the morning. He cleared the PT test and was home by 10:30 the next morning. The Dr believes that there should be improvement for Alex and that everything went as planned. Time will tell. As he heals, we are trying to give him space and let him rest..with two boys its tough!! Hopefully a much needed vacation will help his recovery!

Little Bro
I have fallen into the poor second child syndrome.. where the second one just doesn't get documented. Brody..I'm sorry! It doesn't mean I love you any less than your big brother..it's just that time escapes us a tad quicker than it used to..if that is possible!
Brody.. 8 + months old and you have been pulling yourself up onto the furniture and anything else for that matter. You are one happy baby. You love your puffs, oatmeal with fruit in it and most vegetables too. At 8 months you were weened from nursing. It wasn't you. It was me. I wanted the summer free of nursing and that damn pump I took with me to work everyday. You made the transition seamlessly and for that I am grateful. Don't ask your brother how long I nursed him, it was only because of his ear infections.
You're first sound "eh!". It's cute to say that to you and you respond with it. I wouldn't say it's your first word..just your first exclamation maybe? You are a rambler these days and Mommy and Daddy are both pushing for "mama or dada" to be your first "word". You have the cutest little voice and we love to hear you ramble on!
You have those blue eyes that we never thought either of our children would have. You can thank your Papa for those! We get compliments all the time on how cute your big brother and you are and how beautiful your eyes are!
For the most part you are a good sleeper - you nap twice a day most days and you are one tired boy come 7pm. If you could skip that one bottle in the middle of the night, we would greatly appreciate it! But..you are cute, so waking up to you isn't too bad. But the 5 am wakeups? You'd probably be a lot cuter at about 6 or 7am if we have to push it. It's not every morning that you are up that early, thankfully.
You love your bouncer and you kind of like your exersaucer still, if you have plenty of toys to play with. Forget the baby toys though, you are a fan of your brothers toys! Boulder, Optomis Prime and the rest of the Rescue Bott toys that Jake loves, you love as well. He is a great big brother and loves to get on the floor and play with you. You both still light up when you see each other. Sitting outside in your walker is one of your favorite activities! You love to watch your brother run the yard and to watch him in his pool or playing. We have gone to the spray park a few times this summer and a couple of beach visits..you love the water! The sand too!
Just a few days shy of your ninth month you are standing solo without holding on to anything. From very early on, it was apparent that you had very strong legs! The pedi noted at one of your very first appointments that you had the legs of an athlete! Let's see how right she is!
You've brought more joy to our home than we could ever imagine!!

Five
Dear Jake,
You're FIVE! You've been looking forward to this birthday for some time now! Being your Mommy, I want to keep you this age forever. You haven't been to real school yet, you still believe in the world and see things through a lense that I wish I still had! When you ask every morning " can we cuddle for a little bit" it melts my heart. I told Daddy thought my pregnancy with you that I wanted a cuddle bug and boy did I get one! You love to hug and kiss and I see that you truly care about those around you. Asking the neighbor last week " how was your party yesterday" or Daddy daily " how was your day today, Daddy". Or telling everyone that walked into your fifth birthday party " thanks for coming to my party".... You've got a big heart. When you're away from your little brother you can't wait to get home and get back to him. He lights up when he sees you, the love is apparent already. Driving in the car, Brody loves facing you and watching whatever his big bro is doing.
You're smart, super funny and you certainly have a mind of your own! While I will admit I have a hard time with the fact that you'll be getting on that school bus in two months, i know you are ready. You seek to learn new things and you impress us daily. You're adding, problem solving, you're counting by tens and you can tell a fantastic story but looking at pages of a book! I'm eager to see you take on kindergarten!
Your favorite color is still yellow and you plan to marry Sidney one day but live with us still. You want to be an animal rescuer some days, an astronaut there's. You love Mike the Knight, Octonauts, Dora at times and anything Angry Bird.
Last week I asked you where the time has gone.. Where did five years go? You responded "aaaallll the way to kindergarten!" You're right buddy!

Leg
I scanned through this page today and realized Jake's broken leg never made it to press! Back in late February we took a trip to Monkey Joe's bouncy house in Attleboro.. mommy lost her phone in the toilet and 10 minutes later Jake broke his leg. A frantic drive to Hasboro with Jake crying the whole way was not what we had in mind on the last week of my maternity leave. Jake was oh so brave once he got some Tylenol in him..so brave that I second guessed my decision for a few moments. Until the Dr. came back with x-rays showing a fractured tibia. Broken. I knew it. Jake sported a full leg cast on his right leg for 3 weeks followed by a cast to knee for two weeks after that. Boys and casts are just gross!
In all, he handled it very well. At the beginning there were lots of visitors..and LOTS of toys for this kid. He got cards and cash and more toys. For the first few days he did lay low and was couch bound but after getting the hang of his wheelchair, he was up and around like his old self. He actually loved the wheelchair in the house..the small amount of room he could wheel into, he did.
≤br≥
Four weeks of limping after the cast came off didn't stop this kid from running the yard, chasing his soccer ball, running the track, climbing stairs and running the playground. He still hops a bit when he first starts to run and at the end of the day he is sore and he has a slight limp..but in all he has put the accident behind him and even wants to go back to Monkey Joe's..which we will NOT.

Before I forget...
Our sweet Brody turned 6 months yesterday and today he has his checkup. He is in great health and took the two shots like a champ. Jake looked on and consoled the little man after a few tears. In all, he handled it very well. His stats:
Weight: 17 lbs, 15 oz
Height: 27 inches
Head circumference: 17 3/4
Six months goes quick. So quickly, I haven't had a chance to document much. He is eating solids now and is adorable with his little mouth open awaiting each bite. Our goal (my goal) was to get to 6 months of nursing. We did it ! I will now push it to 8 months. I call it my little part time job.. Formula is very pricey!
Jake is still in love with his brother and loves to hug and kiss him, sing to him and tries to console him when he is crying. Brody lights up when he is around his big brother and will stare at him in wonderment. It's a special bond already and we cannot wait to see their brotherhood grow.

Truth.
After we finished baking cookies today Jake waked into the bathroom and said something I thought I heard but I needed to make sure. I followed him and asked him to repeat himself.
He said: I'm getting so big.
Why yes you are...

3 month rambling.
It's been three months since we were a family of three point five (Netster the fish included). Life in those three months has been great. I'll admit at first I was overwhelmed. How was I going to wake up so often to feed? Was the swaddle gonna go over his face? Was Jake jealous? So many questions. While nursing went well, it wasn't as easy as it was with Jake. I'll spare the details but I literally thought about quitting in those first few weeks. Thankfully, we are over any issues and I have a grip on it all. It's an awesome bond that we share and it's comforting to know I'm doing ok - he's growing.
He loves his big brother and as soon as he hears him talking he lights up and smiles. Same goes for Jake. If he's away from Brody for anytime he always checks back to him and kisses him. He giggles when Brody sits in for story time or enjoys tummy time. It's amazing to see the bond that is forming.
The weeks fly by and Brody and Jake are both sprouting. Picking Jake up is like lifting half my body weight it feels! He's an eating machine at times and will be as big as his dad in no time! Brody is growing but it doesn't seem that he is as big as Jake was. At Brody's 2 month checkup he was 12 lbs. while Jake at that age was almost 14 lbs. as I type that I'm thinking - stop comparing them. Let them be their own individual. I guess that's the twin in me!
What will Brody look like? What's his voice going to sound like? Will he have the crazy cowlicks like J man? These questions run through my head a lot but I'm ok in waiting for the answers... This stage is all too fleeting. I'm trying to soak him up as much as I can and not rush him to milestones. With the first I felt like he had to be on time for everything - rolling, babbling, reaching for toys etc. With number two I'd like to sit back and enjoy the ride!
Here are a few of cute Jake sayings in the past few weeks:
JAKE: Is Brody sleeping?
ALEX: yes, and you should be too
Jake: I am, my eyes were closed when I asked.
"It's a catastrophe... That means OH NO in French"
While sitting with his parents who were watching jeopardy:
You are always wrong, they say different things than you.
My dad stopped by this week on his way home from the casino bearing gifts for the boys and he asked Jake if he had gotten a hair cut recently.. Jake responded with ". Ya..but there's just one problem.." He pointed to his oh so cute cowlick. ;)
While my dad was telling a story about Owls and seeing one the other night in a tree and being shocked that the owl was awake Jake explained to him that owls were nocturnal and slept during the day and were awake at night. :). He's one smart cookie.
Ok. Enough typing on an iPad again. Photos to Come.

2013
2013! So I've been slacking here in blogger land. We all k ow, Brody is here. That leaves much less time for writing anything up. I am working on his birth story. It's long. It's up and down. I'm only writing it on here to have it saved as details will fail me years from now.
We are adjusting to life as a family of four. Brody is a great baby and his big brother is still in love. Kisses, kisses and more kisses he showers his brother with love all day long.
Alex and I are in love as well. I look at him in wonder most days. He was well worth the wait and the often struggle it was to get to this point. Love is as understatement. He just completes our family more so than I ever thought possible.
We are 12 weeks into my maternity leave and I can honestly say I never want to go back to work. Ever. I could stay home with these two boys forever. Unfortunately, we need my income and benefits and jake and Brody need more than just their mom. We have until March together and I'm trying to enjoy every day. Story time, the playgrounds, the YMCA, barnes and noble. We are on the go a lot.
Typing on an iPad is difficult so that's my excuse for being a crappy blogger.
I'll get back to it...for now..I. Enjoying my boyS.

October!
October! Jake is very excited for this month because he LOVES Halloween! He talks about it a lot and can't wait to dress up as an Astronaut this year. Yaya found the perfect costume for him and he is excited to wear it! Lately, that is what he wants to be when he grows up..an astronaut and a Daddy. Of course, he plans to marry Sidney still..and she seems to still be on board with this plan as well. After a wedding on Saturnday night she told her grandfather she was marrying Jake in just two days! Yowsa!
We are also excited for October because it brings the arrival of our new baby! Jake still calls the baby a girl and hopes for a sister..but we continue to tell him it could be a girl..or a boy! Either way, I am confident he is going to be a great big brother. I took him to a sibling class last month and he loved changing the baby dolls diaper and feeding the baby. He also held the doll by it's leg..but we can work on that. We saw the nursery and he loved the view from the hospital room.
He spent this past weekend at Papa's house and was spoiled rotten, as always. It's been tough getting him up for school each morning this week.. On Tuesday I said "Time to wake up Jake, it's morning".. he said "why does morning have to come so quickly?" My thoughts exactly buddy!
There is no baby news.. as of yesterday at one week to my due date there is nothing going on and the baby is very happy where he/she is. Next Wednesday, 10/17 my actual due date, they will do an Ultra Sound to see how big the baby is. This is exciting and also frightening for me! With Jake I never knew how big he was going to be, besides the nurses in Labor and Delivery telling me he was going to be huge. Thankfully, they were wrong..7 lbs was just enough baby!
In other news.. we have had an addition to the family this month. Jake had 10 good days at school and was rewarded with a pet. He chose a very cute Orange Gold fish he named "Netster" (no idea where that came from). Jake and Daddy have had a great time creating a little aquarium for him and Jake loves to feed the little guy. Of course, my idea of a great home was a square vase for the little guy.. Daddy promptly upgraded him to a suite that would improve his quality of life. Smart decision I suppose. Let's hope Netster doesn't end up at the farm with Zak any time soon.
Happy October!

Falling behind
Its almost fall. I have not blogged since early summer. In a nutshell.. Jake turned 4 and we had a dinosaur roar party. It was a great day filled with lots of family, friends, presents, slip and slide action and donut cake. We spent his actual birthday at the. Children's Musuem in Boston, great times.
Alex and I went to Florida courtesy of my Dad as a graduation present. We highly recommend Lago Mar Resort in Ft Lauderdale! Beach time, naps daily, great food and great company made it a fabulous trip.
There was a trip to Ogunquit, Maine to celebrate and walk for Christian, trips to the beach with Mimi and fun at spray park, the zoo and playgrounds.
August brought out annual trip to Lake George with the Conlin family. Once again, it was a fabulous time spent with lots of family..I will blog that soon.
At the moment we are getting the house ready- did I mention we remodeled the kitchen.. We are still finishing up the little things and will hopefully be ready by the time Jake's sibling arrives. Let's hope he/she is late like Jake was.
Thats it in a nutshell... I will hopefully get pictures up in time.

Hot Hot Hot
The heat is on! July is in full swing and so are the AC's! It's been a trying month for the Gregson family as our kitchen is in the midst of a much needed and much anticipated remodel. We are dealing as best we can, but are truly sick of take out food!! We are hoping the floors are in by next week and that our home is more operational very soon.
What have we been doing all summer? We hit the beach on the weekends when we can (and to get out of the contractors hair), the spray park at the YMCA is a hit for Jake (and Daddy), we just purchased a Zoo pass and hope to use it on sub 90 degree days! We try to get out to the back yard to his water table and pool as much as possible too. This past week has just been unbearable with the heat and humidity. Alex and Jake have had a few days a week together and love hanging out. Jake can't get enough of his Daddy..it's really cute and awesome to see how much he adores his Daddy..and vice versa.
With the heat and the start of my third trimester this week (add the remodel) I can get a tad irritable. I am trying not to let it all get to me and am enjoying the pregnancy as much as possible. Which, I have to say is flying by! 27 weeks today and only 13 to go. I really thought Jake would be more antsy about it and the babies arrival but he never asks when it will be here. He did feel lots of movement today by placing his hand on my stomach and he lit up when he felt the kicks and movement. I wish I could have captured his smile on film, he was ecstatic! He is very excited to be a big brother! He still insists on a sister.. time will tell. Maybe if this is a boy we will have to try again for him? :)

My Dad
I had a day in February that I got excellent news, February 14th to be exact. I had learned that morning via email that I had passed my Master's comprehensive exam..the dreaded 3 day exam I had taken weeks before and needed to pass in order to finally graduate. I called my dad on my way in to work and shared the news..he was just as happy as I was. That day was just a fabulous day, not because it was Valentine's Day..but because things were just finally looking up for me and Alex.
That night the mood of the day shifted. While out for dinner, my Dad called. I walked outside of the restaurant to take his call and will forever remember it. He prefaced the conversation with "Listen. I have to tell you something and I don't want you to be upset. Ok? Don't get upset." Ugh. My mind raced. What could he be telling me right now, and how can I keep my emotions in check when I have no idea what he is about to lay out. He went on to tell me that he was at Lowell General Hospital and that they did a biopsy that morning on him..and they found cancer in his throat and tongue. "But don't get upset, everything will be fine."
Cancer. The god awful word you never want to be faced with. In true fashion, my Dad went on to tell me things in an effort to calm my fears.. chuckling: "I'm OK, I just ate a Quarter Pounder from McDonald's." "I feel fine." "Just don't worry and don't cry." "The Dr seems to think it's very curable." The crying was inevitable..it was just a blow to the gut that I wasn't expecting. But really, do we ever expect or want this type of news?
I let the news sink in and I'm not going to lie..it scared the daylights out of me. My Dad is my rock. Ironically, I had been talking to my Mom on the way in to work that morning and she was mentioning how much she missed her own mother and felt guilty about not mourning her father as badly as she did her mom. My exact words to her were: "I don't know what I'd do if I lost you mom..and I really can't even fathom losing Dad either". It's life.. I know it. I have since had the same talk with my Dad since February and he's laid it out there..there is nothing we can do about death..it happens and we will survive. It still doesn't make it any easier.
That night I went home and as word started to spread within our immediate family, it became more real. I'd like to say I took the news the way my Dad wanted me to and I didn't get upset or cry.. but I cried like a baby. As I sat alone in my bedroom it all came out especially when I thought about the worst case scenario of this ugly disease.
I talked to my dad a few more times that night and the conversation that I will never forget is what makes my Dad who he is. I started to cry and again, he told me not to cry because everything was going to be OK..my response was: "It's been a day with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows". As he always is..he remained upbeat at that moment and turned it on his daughter's accomplishment and said "I know, but I'm so proud of you for passing your exam"..it wasn't the exam that was the high.."I found out today..I'm pregnant, Dad." He could not have been happier..and I could hear how excited he was in his voice. He never agreed with me, which he could have and said "ya i know, cancer sucks and this sucks." Instead, he chose to focus on the positive things the day brought and not the diagnosis that just rocked his and our world.
Of the course of the next few months there were Dr appointments and a surgery and chemo and radiation. Again, he never bitched about it (outwardly anyhow)..his goal was to get the treatments done and put this behind him. Sure, he didn't like the feeding tube they put in just in case he stopped eating, or the fact that he lost his taste buds or the dreaded hose they put down his nose and he swatted out. His focus was getting better and getting to our family vacation in August. He has not let cancer get in the way of the things he enjoys most..time with his family, time at the race track or time shooting craps at Foxwoods. Just days after finishing his treatments he sat for hours at my graduation. He's one tough guy!
A friend texted me in April asking how he was doing and how treatments were going..and I was happy to write back that he was handling his treatments well, even doubling up radiation treatments to get done faster and while he lost weight he was still looking good..and he never did lose much of that full head of hair he has. While I wrote about his progress with a smile on my face it hit me when I finished the sentence.. "I'm proud of him". I truly am proud of the person that he is. Again, I have always thought of my Dad as a super dad..there is nothing that he wouldn't do for his kids and his family and for anyone else for that matter. Nothing. But, it's the way he handled his diagnosis and battled through the treatments, the way he worried about everyone else and how we reacted to the news that makes him the man that he is. He's one heck of a role model, not only for his own children but his grandchildren as well. I'm just so proud to call him Dad and I hope he knows on Father's Day and every other day he's the most amazing man I know.
